OSCILLATIONS presents concerts by artists selected from submissions received in response to an open call for proposals.

BEN ROIDL-WARD on bassoon and TED MOORE performing on laptop and electronics will present a new work that explores their shared interest of multimedia performance and improvisation. Their artistic mission focuses on different strategies and systems for controlling sound and light that give them enough control to feel they can steer a performance, but not so much control that they have to be responsible for every aspect of the performance moment-to-moment. By giving the electronics and custom lighting system a agency of its own, it creates a third character that they can improvise with and play off of.

ROSARIO will perform one long open-form composition titled On Circulation, made of improvised rhythmic cells or modules. All the sound material is sampled from heterogeneous sources that comprise music, field recordings, archival footage, advertisement, found materials, user-generated content and more. The piece has all been prepared in such a way that each sound is usually one second long or less. On Circulation is a slow evolving work where the main structural and organizing parameters are density, timbre and time. The material constantly sways between synchronized and free motion even when at the same tempo because of the rhythmic subdivisions that occurs throughout the performance.
