SUMMERSONIC 2016
In its sixth year, SUMMERSONIC is undergoing a metamorphosis: we've stuffed three weekends worth of concerts into one blow-out afternoon of music by some of the most fascinating musicians working in Chicago right now.

Please join us for an intimate feast prepared by ESS Executive Director Lou Mallozzi. (Beyond his achievements as an artist and educator, Lou has achieved some renown as a talented gastronome.) You'll get an insider look into the workings of Chicago's premiere resource for the creation, presentation and preservation of sound artworks in all media through conversation with artists and other figures in the ESS community—all while being treated to the sonic stylings of LeRoy Bach (Wilco) and Nick Butcher (My Silence, Sonnenzimmer). Your generous donation of $100/plate will support ESS’s ongoing programming and artist development iniatives as it enters its 30th year of operation in 2016.
ESS has assembled an all-star crew of improvisers to play in the Maze of the You Are Here Festival. Players include: Tim Kinsella, Matt Lux, Alex Inglizian, Adam Vida, Ben LaMar Gay, Will Faber, LeRoy Bach, Ben Boye
Slow Sound features original instruments designed and constructed by John Preus, an artist, musician and woodworker. Each piece is made from scavenged furniture, including bedposts, headboards, tables and chairs; new works created specifically for this exhibition incorporate scraps collected from in and around ESS.
We are excited to introduce SummerSonic: a series of three casual parties at ESS, featuring live music in the agarden by some of the most accomplished experimental bands in Chicago, and new video work by filmmaker James Fotopoulos projected in Studio A.
