Experimental Sound Studio and Frequency Series are proud to present a rare Chicago appearance by influential composer, violinist, and improviser Malcolm Goldstein. Works to be performed may include gentle rain preceding mushrooms (in memoriam John Cage), my feet is tired but my soul is rested (for Rosa Parks), and Soundings—the name Goldstein gives to his open improvisations, which have long been credited for expanding the sonic palette and expressive potential of the violin.

Francisco López’s concerts are immersive sonic experiences in the dark, with multi-channel surround systems and blindfolds provided for the public. Created from a myriad original sound environments (both natural and artificial) collected all over the world, the performance will not present “soundscapes,” but rather virtual worlds of sound in which the listener develops his/her own experience in an environment where the rules and the parameters are defined by the sounds themselves—felt as space and as a physical dynamic force. Reknowned for the intensity, richness and complexity of these virtual worlds, López's performances are truly not-to-be-missed experiences.
